A Fairy "Tara" Story (A fairy Tale Story).

A Fairy “Tara” Story (A Fairy Tale Story) written by woRm
Once upon a Time there was fairy, this fairy was unlike all the other fairies. Her name was Tara, and like all fairies she was small in stature, but a giant in “heart”. What set Tara apart from all the rest was her wit and beauty. Her skin was smooth yet held the color of the brightest desert sand, her face was perfectly sculpted and set with eyes the color of aquamarine. This special fairy’s hair was of the ombre style. It was mostly light brown but dabbled with red and blonde coloring as if her shoulder length hair were painted on. Much to the chagrin of her fellow fairies, Tara wore a dark gown made of the feathers from the blackest Raven. Her transparent wings often caught the sunlight and created a prism of color around her. She was breathtakingly gorgeous. Today, like all days she got up from her rest and took to her job. Quickly brushing her hair and bathing in the drops of dew that she kept stored in an empty can Tara flew with haste to do her job. Now, the Village of Paige was located in the Dark Forest, a forest where men were afraid to enter. There, the fairies were safe. Tara’s job was simple and easy, with the charm she wore around her neck she was able to lead the “dire crows” to their nest, where they slept during the day. Her job was important, because if she didn’t lead the birds back in at sunrise they would escape and the Village of Paige would be under the threat of attack from other creatures in the Forest like the “fiddler monkeys” that preyed on fairy-folk. The charm was made from a magical metal, that was forged in the shape of a hummingbird. While wearing this charm, Tara was able to control any creature that had wings. The sun poked its way through the spaces between the trees, as Tara flew towards the edge of the forest. Upon arriving, she noticed a grown man running along the edge of the forest. Tara stopped dead in flight and watched the peculiar man with growing curiosity. He was very tall and lean. He wore only white trousers and carried a small barrel. Tare noticed that his skin was darker than hers and his hair looked funny shaved that close to his head. This man’s skin color reminded her of the “sweet mud” her parents bought from the Dwarf merchants that raided the towns of men. From a young age, Tara was instructed to stay away from “man” for they were a vile and barbaric species that had a taking to death and destruction by the wars they fought. Something in her, made her do something bold, something dangerous, and something taboo-she followed him. It wasn’t long before she realized where this man was going. In the northwestern part of the forest there was the famed “pond of life”-the very waters where all life was rumored to have been formed. The dark man knelt down and plunged his entire face into the waters. He drank the water like a thirsty wolf after a long hunt in the summer’s night. Tara landed on the ground on the other side of the pond, and that’s when she noticed a Toad staring at the dark man drinking the water. The Toad didn’t move a muscle, it was still as a stone staring as if he intended to seize the man for a meal. The man took the small barrel and began to fill it with the water from the “pond of life”. It was Tara’s turn to become petrified, she was filled with shock as she watched the man take the forbidden water. In a flash of light, the Toad moved. Tara noticed that the toad took out a small drum. She knew who it was, it was the god of Chaos, the author of life, and guardian of the pond. This god was also known for his tricks and deception. The toad hit the drum three times, and turned into a man, except his skin was still green and his face was without a proper nose. “Man, you have sullied my pond and have forfeited what remains of your life,” said the god of Chaos. Tara watched as the man lost the color in his face. He dropped his barrel and backed himself up against a tree where he shook as if he were caught outside in the dead of winter. “Forgive me, I only wished to take the water back to my town. I was told that the water had the ability to heal all the sick children,” confessed the man as he prostrated himself before the god. “Who told you of my pond’s secrets?” asked the god. “The Ivory lady. That’s what she called herself,” replied the man. Tara watched as the god began to pace back and forth, she was amazed as he was able to walk on the water’s surface. “My meddling sister is at it again…I’ll let you save your village,” the god chucked. “But only if there is someone willing to die for your transgressions” spoke the god. “I…haven’t anyone. I’m an orphan, I’m alone and an outcast,” said the man. Tara watched as the man began to weep. She looked and saw that the god was smirking at the man’s sorrow. “That’s too bad. I bet if you could have saved those children you’d be a hero. You’re better off forsaking that town anyway. They don’t expect you to return, they saw your journey as a way to be rid of you,” said the god his voice taking on a tone as bitter as wormwood. Tara was moved by the man’s compassion, and that’s when she did something that forever changed her world. “I’ll die for him,” said Tara. The god and the man looked at Tara as she flew into the scene. She circled around the god and then over to the man. “What is your name?” she asked. “Biko,” he replied. The god of Chaos stepped forward with a sneer on his face. “Your life will not be enough. You are just a fairy, you’re to small to matter. Unless the two of you are willing to strike a deal, for a small price I can turn you into a woman,” said the god. “What is it you require?” asked Tara. “I need your heart and Biko’s as well,” he said with a sly grin. “You can have mine, if it will save those children” said Biko. The god turned to Tara. “Will you give your heart for the sake of those children?” asked the god of Chaos. Tara nodded yes and bowed her head. She thought about her village, and how she wasn’t going to be able to help them anymore. She was saddened and looked Biko in his eye. “Take this charm, and return to the largest tree in the forest. Someone will need to use it after I am dead” said Tara. “I will gladly do that, I can’t thank you enough” said Biko. “Very well, let’s begin” said the god of Chaos his face hiding a grin. The god raised both of his hands. He placed his left thumb over Biko’s chest and his right thumb over Tara’s. All three of them closed their eyes, and the god’s fingers pulled Tara and Biko’s hearts out. There was a ringing, that sounded like bells. When he had their hearts out, he placed them in a large black bag that was oddly filled with other hearts. When Tara opened her eyes, she looked at Biko in disgust. “I don’t want to die for you. Who are you to me?” she asked as she moved away from him. Biko didn’t get upset, instead he turned away empty handed without the barrel and started to walk away. Tara did the same, except she took off into the forest. The god of Chaos started to laugh. That’s when the Ivory lady appeared. She took Biko by the hand, her brother the god of Chaos even cowed as she walked up to him. “I gave him permission. Why did you interfere, brother?” she asked her face fierce and full of fire. “Because I can,” said the god his voice a mere mumble now. “Return his heart, I order you for I am the goddess of Order” said the Ivory lady. The god of Chaos dug in his bag and took out two black spheres, he handed them over to his sister. The Ivory lady took the spheres and placed them in Biko’s hands. “Your heart is that sphere. It won’t return to your body until you find Tara and give her back her sphere. The children will die, but I will resurrect them if you can find her,” said the Ivory lady. “I will find her,” said Biko. “Good. You must find her or you will be like my brother- Cold and evil. When you hear the wind, you will hear the voices of those children until they are able to experience life once again. Do you understand?” said the Ivory lady. “Yes, I do” answered Biko as he ran into the dark forest after Tara…
