So when will I get to my seventh day of student teaching? No idea. You will know when I know. Monday night a “blizzard” (pretty much a lot of snow) came and had a field day in Oklahoma City. So that put me out of the classroom for the rest of the week. I haven’t done much these last few days. I kept hoping that I’d be able to go to my school but nope! Not till next week. I’m praying for Monday. If so I will be teaching my beloved students about the Causes of the American Revolution. I think this is a perfect time to talk about Revolutions because of what is currently going on in Cairo, Egypt. (IF you know about Historical Research then you will know that this blog may one day serve as an obvious INTENTIONAL primary source or simply a first hand/eye witness account) The people of Cairo want their current leader, President Mubarak OUT! Why? He’s been in power for 30 years and he wants to stay in longer, but he of course is President and is doing a bad job leading Egypt. Their economy is bad. People don’t have jobs. There is a 40% Unemployment rate. Sad. Taking a look back into history I can recall another revolution, The Russian Revolution (1917) which, was basically a series of Revolutions. One occurred in February that replaced the Tsarist aristocracy with another government that was later ousted and replaced with the “horrible and taboo” Bolshevik or Communist government (in October). The causes of both of those Russian Revolutions dealt of course with the Economy. During The Great War (WWI) Turkey entered on the side of the Central Powers and Russia lost a major trade route that caused them some economic issues! Money Problems!!! The same was true with our own American Revolution. “NO Taxation without representation” was the colonists’ battle cry. Some of our founding fathers were smugglers and they started trippin when they couldn’t get away with their dirt. If I remember right Samuel Adams may have been one. Check me on that. The Brits were broke from the French and Indian War, which was fought to secure the borders of the Colonist. The Brits of course thought that since the war was fought for the Colonist benefit then they wouldn’t mind “Sharing the Load” (**FLASK?BACK**-LORD OF THE RINGS, SAMWISE TO FRODO: “SHARE THE LOAD” [REGARDING THE RING]) They weren’t feeling that, they were like Parliament ain’t got NO RIGHT taxing up on us (That is bad English). So came the Revolution.
Now I’m sitting in my apartment watching MSNBC. Egyptians going “ham” (hard or strong) on the protest tip (job/task). I’m shaking my head. It is of course black history month, and I got to thinking, What if King was helping the people of Cairo. I know what he’d say to them. King’s philosophy of protest was elegantly described in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail. Here is a quote, “Over the past few years I have consistently preached that nonviolence demands that the means we use must be as pure as the ends we seek. I have tried to make clear that is it wrong to use immoral means to attain moral ends.” The Egyptians like I said are going ham. I don’t know what the future holds for them. But they seriously need a Dr. King. I’m not taking sides, but these cocktails they are throwing and the beatings they are giving each other is pretty sad. In my last blog I said that our generation needs something to stand for because we are falling and a failing-I said that we need a Revolution. I’m thinking what are we going to stand for? Are the “Awesomely Affluent Americans” oppressing the “Pathetically Poor Patriots”? Is Healthcare Reform going to fix our issues? Is it going to take a new President? (MINDFLASH: SARAH PALIN INAGURATED JAN 2013. I VOMIT). But seriously, are groups with racist undertones the answer to our problems. Is freedom really good for a crooked, perverse, and corrupt generation? It is easy to say WE NEED JESUS! But what does that mean today? We need better leaders. We need another HERO. I’m leaving you hanging to think. I don’t have all the answers.
Here is a quote,
“Liberty, not communism, is the most contagious force in the world.”-Earl Warren.
I love how Warren said “contagious”. I know some diseases that are “contagious” and, very few if any are good. So is total liberty a good thing? I don’t think so. People scream and shout, “I need my liberty” and things of the like. Capitalism is all about Freedom. It is an “Invisible Hand” that guides us to goodwill. Supply and Demand…blah blah blah. Us black folks gained our “freedom” and I’m so happy that after 400 years we gained it, but bondage is coming in many forms these days. Who is worthy to untie the chains? Who has the right or the freedom to free others? There are a lot of questions to be answered. Thankfully not one man has them all. “Let Freedom Ring?”…Good night I was just doing some “free” thinking.
